Impressions On The Palouse
When I moved to the Pacific Northwest I read about a place called The Palouse. “What is The Palouse?” you might ask if you aren’t from around here. Well, it’s a 4,000 square mile region of rolling, asymmetrical hills covered in wheat. I was completely smitten by the idea of heading out with my camera to explore this divine-looking destination. It only took me 4 years, but hey, better late than never.
Let me show you my impressions on The Palouse!
I was amazed by the rolling fields of wheat, the colors, and the shapes and textures they created.
It was fun to work with my camera to get angles and perspectives of colors, lines, and angles coming together.
The barns set against the wheat fields make perfect additions to the landscape and make for more photography fun. And, those clouds…
On my first evening in town I drove over to Kamiak Butte for sunset and a birds eye view of the terrain. I hiked up, almost to the top, and was gifted with this amazing view about an hour before sunset.
THAT is the Palouse! Rolling hills as far as the eye can see. Pretty dreamy, huh?
And when storms roll in over those fields…

Waves upon waves of wheat and color. Impressionists aimed to capture the momentary, sensory effect of a scene – the impression things made on the eye in a fleeting instant. This is certainly the impression the Palouse had on me: Colorful, flowing, and ever so special!
