About the Experience
This breath practice was featured as the February practice for the 2025 Art Of Wellness Calendar.
In this practice we take a respite from external “noise” and go within to listen to the sound of our breath…from the “inside” with Ujjayi Pranayama.
UJJAYI
Ujjayi translates to “victorious” or “ocean”.
PRANAYAMA
To understand the meaning of pranayama, we split it into two words: Prana and Yama.
Prana means “life force” or breath, the force that gives us life.
Yama translates to “restraint” or control. As a result of this, we get breath control
Ujjayi Pranayama then is “victorious breath” or “oceanic breath”.
We’ll find some “victory” in our goal to shut out the external noise and we’ll be with our breath with ease like the soft waves of the ocean.
