Creative Color – Lighting and A Little Drama

A big thanks to everyone who read the blog yesterday and sent me messages of encouragement and validation.  I LOVE that some of you even committed to getting a little more “foolish” with creative color in your own lives.  My color mission is on track!

I’m back today to “color out loud”.  One of the reasons I started this blog was to share my love of color with others.  I truly believe that color has immense power and I know it can change my attitude or give me hope on a tough day.  For me, color is like food.  I must have it to thrive.  When it’s absent, I can feel the effects and I crave it.  I am learning to appreciate my connection with color and my ability to see it in ways others don’t.  I share color here in hopes of inspiring others, making a difference, changing the way people see things around them…or just making someone smile!

Some days it’s just that simple.  Color = smile.

Today I received color smiles and design inspiration  in the form of some beautiful, colorful lighting!

Did you have the same reaction I did?  I had to catch my breath!  This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this piece of lighting and I reacted the same way on our first encounter.  I could potentially write a dissertation on this there’s so much here to love!  I would never STOP smiling if it was in my home.  I’d probably blog about it every day.  You’d get really sick of hearing about it…we’d have a blog breakup…drama would ensue.  Yes, it’s THAT special!   This came to me again today in an email from my friend Diane who sent me the link and these words “I think I just died and went to Heaven !!!”  I get it!

You can find this charmer, Catalonia Chandelier, at Shine by S. H. O.  Make sure you have a few extra minutes when you’re there because you *might* want to look around a little.  For instance…

The Sugalite Pendant is like Cinderella dressed up for the ball!  It’s elegant and dreamy!  I already have a vision for the room this baby would hang in and it involves these chairs I saw on Color Sizzle.

This next light, from Satelight, is really inspiring for me personally.  I have a vision of my melissaAnne COLORS abstracts printed on silk and linen fabrics covering lampshades.  Pendant lamps and table lamps with beautiful blown glass bases in unique colors pulled from natural shades in my images.  I tested a DIY lampshade to give to someone as a gift last year.  The fabric worked fine, the DIY…well, I’m not Martha Stewart.

My final color smile came from something that is near and dear to my heart.  Hidden color palettes!  I’ve talked about this before.  It’s kinda an obsession with me.  Colorful designs outside of clear view that when seen feel like you’re sneaking into a present you weren’t meant to see.  A little danger.  A little intrigue.   A little forbidden color.

Meet lighting from Satelight with a hidden color palette.

I hope you enjoyed today’s color and something here inspired you to do something fun with color or just made you smile.  If you see some fun color if your life today let us know in the comments here on the blog or share it with us at melissaAnne COLORS on Facebook.

My Favorite Creative Color Places Online

Today I’m sharing some of my favorite resources online for creative color.   Places I go for inspiration and information about color, trends, and ways color is making a difference.

Sensational Color

I love the team over at Sensational Color.  They create great content on colorful products, color trends, color in design, and all things color!  They have a great blog called Live in Full Color and following them on Facebook puts a lot of color in your daily stream.  If you want to learn more about color and design, check out their Color Consultant Certification program. The program is available in several locations and online.  I participated last year online and really enjoyed it!

Let’s Colour Project

The Let’s Colour Project is working together with local communities across the globe to paint streets, houses, school, and more.  I love this message on their website:  Grey is out. Gloom is gone. It’s time to live our lives in colour. You gotta love that mission!

Here’s a shot of artists and locals painting a building in Brazil.

Visit their website to get more information on how the Let’s Colour Project is making a difference through color and sign up to get involved.

COLOURlovers

This  is a great site for more things color, design, and inspiration.  Not only can you get info on trends and industries at COLOURlovers, you can also create your own palettes, patterns, and even name a color.  It’s a lot of fun so check it out!

Lively Grey

I recently found the color games on Livelygrey.com.  They are a fun way to “play” with color and test your color skills.

I hope you enjoy these fun and colorful sites!

See you Monday…

Creative Color – Wednesday Words No. 3

I found a really fun way to get creative color from words on your website, blog, Facebook page, or just words in your head.

Today’s Wednesday Words is an art project you can all participate in!  It’s called Wordle.

I found Wordle searching Google for word art to use today.  I ended up creating my own word art and having a lot of fun.

Here’s a few examples of how to use Wordle to create your word art:

Type or paste a string of words or text into Wordle and let it create ART from your text.

Here’s my first Wordle.  I simply typed in some of my favorite words.

You can edit your Wordle with new fonts, new colors, and new styles.  Customize your Wordle!

Enter a website address and let Wordle create word art from the site.

Here’s a Wordle of my blog.

Here’s a Wordle of melissaAnne COLORS on Facebook.

The possibilities are endless.  Wordle the web!  I Wordled some of my fav blogs and the results were so fun!  I’m not sharing though…hopefully they’ll read this and Wordle themselves!

Share this post with friends so they can Wordle too.  Post yours on the melissaAnne COLORS Facebook wall.  Let us see you Wordle!

Until next Wednesday…WORD!

Designer Inspiration

I don’t know if it’s the Winter blues or flu blues, but something has me down and out today.  I woke feeling a bit “colorless” and uninspired.

What to do?  Straight to the computer and Google Chrome transport to my favorite textile designers for some dream inspiration.

Angela Adams

I love her Ocean / Seaglass rug!  I love everything about it!  The color, the texture, the image.   It reminded me of my Reflection Colors photography collection and the soothing patterns and colors of the ocean waters.

I am a big fan of Angela Adams.  She’s one of my design heroes and I’d LOVE to work for her!  When I first saw her line I was smitten.  Reading how she describes her line on the about page, it all made perfect sense.  angela adams is a casual, modern, luxury brand representing an optimistic view of the world spoken through a language of color and pattern.

Color and pattern.  No wonder I love her designs so much.  I also LOVE that she has photographs of the actual inspiration behind each of her designs.  As a photographer who wants to design based on photos I find this so inspiring and validating.  Stop by and check out her website and beautiful designs.

Jonathan Adler

First off Jonathan Adler is hilarious!  I love his fun, colorful, and whimsical designs.  His personality shows so strong in his designs and I’m always inspired by the authenticity he shows.  My inspiration choice for today?

The Jonathan Adler Haines Chair in Flax.  Simple color.  Fantastic design.  I love the curves on this chair.  I could sit in it all day with a good book, my journal, and some hot cocoa!  It’s classic, yet quirky.  True Jonathan Adler style if you ask me.  I wouldn’t mind working for Jonathan Adler either, of course.  Only problem is I might have to wear Depends to work because I’d be laughing so hard…

John Robshaw

Oh…John Robshaw.  His designs are beautiful.  His colors are captivating.  His story is inspiring and when I met him at an Apartment Therapy Offline event he was so friendly and gracious.

His travels and photos are the stuff of my fantasies!  I’d like to follow him around for 6 months and take pictures in the Souks, in the streets, in the sheets…NOT LIKE THAT…have you seen John Robshaw sheets?  If so, you get me.

Today I went for pillow inspiration with John.  I have a thing about pillows.  They make me happy.  They bring the “thing” to furniture and bedding.  Here are two of my favorite pillows I found today.  They are both from the Messy Blockprint collection.  I could put them on that Jonathan Adler chair and be quite satisfied.

I could also put Jonathan Adler’s Bargello pillow on that chair and be quite satisfied….It’s my favorite JA pillow!

I hope you have colorful places to turn for inspiration when you’re feeling a bit “under the inspiration”.  If not, well, you can borrow mine any time!  There’s room for all of us.

Have a great day!

Sunday With Martha Stewart Color

I spent my Sunday afternoon on the couch absorbing the beauty, inspiration, {chocolate} and color that is Martha Stewart Living magazine.  A wonderful Christmas gift that keeps on giving.

32 pages in JACKPOT!

FANTASTIC color finds!

I first fell in love with Mud Australia heat-resistant carafes “perfect for serving hot cocoa”…even spicy hot cocoa! The design of these carafes are wonderful and the Spring pastels made me long for mojitos instead of hot cocoa!   Here they are in dark colors from Mud Australia’s website. I’m back to the spicy hot cocoa service (but still dreaming of pastel mojitos).

I could use some new spoons to stir my hot chocolate (and my mojitos soon).  Feast your eyes on these!

The Miix Spoon Set (available online at the MoMA Store) are teaspoons made of fine bone china with a traditional handle design. The white handles are unglazed and the spoon tips are dipped in glazes of assorted colors.  They come in sets of 5.

The romance of old world china and a modern indulgence of color.  A bit of child-like whimsy to remind you of tea parties with your favorite {doll}friends.  What’s not to love here?

I can see the morning routine already…”Late again.  I couldn’t decide what color to stir with.”
